Apr. 24th, 2012 10:19 amLast night, I went out with
freeradical42 to see Samuel Delany read. I was late and missed part of his reading, but the man's 70 years old and still writing entertaining, complicated fiction. Amazingly impressive. However, I felt some disappointment with the question and answer session. Though Delany's a very insightful critic, his comments on his own work were evasive and vague, full of insistence that his writing process is straightforward and his goal is "to tell a good story". I've heard the more detail-oriented Delany in past discussions, and I think he was trying to be time-conscious in his answers, but I got less out of the Q&A than I'd hoped for.
Afterward, we went to a bar and watched the rest of the Ranger game. They are not yet eliminated! Woo! I don't watch hockey except during the playoffs, and then only haphazardly, and I'm not the hugest hockey fan in the world, but it was a good game.
freeradical42 has already shaved his playoff beard, though, because he's sure the Rangers are going to find a way to lose in game 7.
My Omer beard, meanwhile, continues to grow. Another two weeks before I can trim it.
