I got my
dark_agenda assignment yesterday. I'm still really excited!
I sketched out an outline for the story, which is great. I have a whole plot already, which feels weird. It's extremely rare that I know before writing where the whole story is going, but it was important with this one because it's a very plot-oriented source text. It's also a genre I've never written before, but I've figured out some ways to reorient the genre towards my talents as a writer. It's still a very research-heavy story I have ahead of me. But it seems wholly manageable. I think it's going to be a lot of fun to write.
Oh, yay, it's good to be in a writing mood again.
I went to a pre-NaNoWriMo event last night at the local library. It was organized by the new municipal liaison, who's one of those guys who's spent years obsessing about becoming a published novelist. Having taken over the region, he's trying to offer more programming for people interested in turning their NaNo novels into publishable works, and last night's lecture was from a published children's author offering advice on how to learn the rules to become a published writer. His advice boiled down to: Be honest about the shortcomings in your writing, take advantage of the resources the internet provides for learning about publishers and agents and writing advice, and avail yourself of writing groups. But it was an entertaining hour even though I have very little interest in doing the work involved in becoming a published novelist. And it was fun to say hi to people from last year's NaNo and get other people excited about trying NaNo for the first time.
Oh, yay, it's good to be in a writing mood again.
