I'm kind of cynical on the idea of ta'veren, I got the sense that the concept was introduced as a plot device, but the "a bunch of random good things and random bad things happened in this city, welp" never felt significant enough to justify "and now this random minor character who we need as an ally will fortuitously decide to ally with us, phew."
