Summary: Vibranium: The rarest mettle on Earth

Ha, after all that talk about vidding strategy I ended up making a vid that, while it does use a few more effects than I usually do, is still an incredibly ME vid, and one that is unlikely to score all that well with the judges. I don't care, I'm really proud of this vid.

I liked how it plays out the way Steve Rogers and T'Challa are heroes with parallels in their stories.

Nice use of the Uneasy Bake Oven sequence. Also the intentionality of T'Challa on and in snow.

iiiinnnnteresting--I would never have thought of those parallels, I suppose because most of my parallels have been of Steve and Bucky, but yeah, when you contrast them and bring them together you can see it. (Also, I have a thing for Steve and T'Challa friendship so this hits some of those buttons pretty well.)

I'm sure that Ryan Coogler had great intentionality, especially that "it's hard for a good man to be a king" paralleling Erskine's enjoinment to Steve to stay a good man rather than become a perfect soldier.

Some of it is also baked in; Jack Kirby and Stan Lee were much better at composing Black Panther than they were with the various Americans of African Antecedents (though some of the cringe is equal opportunity The Seventies by the Greatest Generation(tm)) I'm pretty sure Ryan and others have read more back catalog than I have.

I really liked this!
Such great movement and I liked how well you positioned the themes with the altering vibes in the song.

"the rarest mettle on earth" --> I see what you did there! ;)

Great vid! There's a whole lot of parallels to think about now...

This is so interesting! I never really realized how much vibranium ties Cap and T'Challa together (and Bucky and Sam too). They come into contact with it so differently, but they both immensely respect its power.

That's a good point, but I don't think Cap knew where it was from.

Huh. He does say 'your father said' and not 'you told me your father said...' Before, I just assumed he meant that Tony explained to him why the Shield is so important/powerful because Howard didn't explain in The First Avenger. But now I think that assumption was probably made because I was wearing my shipping goggles. And we have no background on how Howard got the shield, and we know he's kind of a dick. Then again, Howard might have stumbled onto the material from someone else who had smuggled it/bought on the black market, and then only found out about its origins later (Or Tony could have put the pieces together about what it was actually made of). The scene in endgame when Tony gives Steve back his shield seemed symbolic of Tony giving permission for Steve to use the shield and be Captain America again, but it's even more symbolic that the shield itself is not even an American product.
