The
wiscon_vidparty vidshow had 19 premieres this year, which is amazing, and a lot of them are just incredible vids. I wanted to highlight some of my favorites:
Stamina (women's sports) by
runawaynun
SO GREAT! I love the way it revels in the wonders of female physicality but also deals with the political and historical struggles that had to be fought to allow these women to become the athletes they did.
I Am The One Who Will Remember Everything (Harry Potter) by

The most amazing McGonagall vid. It has so much going on, so many narrative throughlines, all of McGonagall's students and all of the ways in which she shapes them and they shape her. I actually reread Sorcerer's Stone today in its wake and all of McGonagall's scenes read SO DIFFERENTLY now.
Field Work (Imperial March) (Indiana Jones) by

So slyly ironic at first, so devastatingly incisive as it ramps up.

Date: 2017-06-06 03:27 am (UTC)Wow okay this is kind of amazing to read? Minerva has always always always been my favorite, so I couldn't help but view things through her lens a lot, but it somehow never occurred to me that vidding her could show a bit of that to other people? It would have been too much to aspire to, even if I had thought of it! But this is great. :)

Date: 2017-06-06 03:59 am (UTC)"You flatter me," said Dumbledore calmly. "Voldemort had powers I will
never have."
"Only because you're too -- well -- noble to use them."
Only now that I've seen your vid, it's incredibly obvious that calling him 'noble' in this moment isn't entirely a compliment. It's probably more insult than compliment. Minerva has lost friends and family to Voldemort, and she carries all the burdens of a survivor...and she knows that Dumbledore has held back from using his full power!
And then, her opinion of the plan of leaving Harry with the Dursley's is so expressive:
Professor McGonagall opened her mouth, changed her mind, swallowed, and
then said, "Yes -- yes, you're right, of course.
One has the feeling that Minerva has had an awful lot of practice swallowing her tongue and then telling Dumbledore that he's right, of course.
