It disappoints me that two and a half years after I posted The Glass and Reed Advertising Agency, nobody has commented on my Easter Egg mention of Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital.

This fictional hospital was the employer of Gregory House on the TV series House. Thus it represents yet another aspect of the set of fictional geographies that overlays the greater Princeton area, which was a major theme of my story- the idea that real places influence our fictions and fictions influence how we see real places.

And like, I know that my canon of New Jersey stories is a super-idiosyncratic thing that nobody shares with me, but it still bums me out.

I really like that story, but I've never watched any House, so I'm afraid the reference went over my head. I've never been to New Jersey, either, so I'm curious about your headcanon for the area. I've read a good bit of Daniel Pinkwater. Does his stuff figure in?

Absolutely. In my original reveal post for the story, I mentioned a few parts of my formative NJ stories canon: Pinkwater is certainly notable, as well as the ViewAskewniverse films and Philip Roth's novels. I should also mention Harold and Kumar, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, and obviously the Orson Welles War of the Worlds and Henry Reed. And other things I am forgetting, but those are big ones.

Welllll.... PPTH was fictional when House started airing, but since then, they've built this place (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_Medical_Center_of_Princeton_at_Plainsboro), which people call Princeton Plainsboro hospital.

I was going to mention that but it seemed too complicated. Though again it emphasizes the way the fictional geography and the real geography have an intricate interaction pattern.
