I haven't posted in a week or so because I haven't really had things to say, and I've been busy.
Fic writing proceeds apace. I'm basically done with Jukebox, and I am nowhere near done with Fic Corner, but I have written substantial amounts for both. I'm also nearly finished with an Iron Man vid, just working out a few final problems. And I'm almost finished editing Secret Project that really needs to get finished this week. I will probably have pictures to share of Secret Project sometime next month.
There has been boardgaming and roleplaying! Alai's Labyrinth Lord Legend of the Bieth campaign, with some dungeon exploration adventuring. I love playing in his game because he's got such a clear vision of the setting (Medieval North Africa meets Spaghetti Western, with small doses of Gygax and Vance in the background), and it makes it so much fun to explore. In boardgaming news, games I have played recently include Red Dragon Inn, Cinque Terre, Treasure and Traps, Trivial Pursuits, and Sybarit. Would recommend all but Sybarit, and Sybarit, being a weird trivia game about food and drink, might be fun as a dinner party game in the right crowd.
As to Trivial Pursuits, I think it's probably been a decade since I last lost a game. Eventually we're going to have to have an actual Army of Darkness showdown purely so I can be beaten by somebody. (In one group of friends, we used to regularly play Trivial Pursuit with a group of a dozen or more people. We swiftly realized that me, Alai, and Soctt were so much better than everyone else that if we were going to play as individuals or even teams of two, nobody else would have a fighting chance and everyone but us three would be bored. So we figured out that if we put the three of us on one team and had us compete against everyone else in the room, we'd reach an approximate parity sufficient to make everyone entertained (and if someone on team Everyone Else got bored, they could wander away to do something else without harming the gameplay). The end result is that the three of us, the so-called Army of Darkness, have never lost, but it's at least been pretty close a few times)
There has been being social! I went to an FFA meetup for the third or fourth time, which have all been fun. I know everything about the idea of going to a random unfamiliar place to meet strangers from the Internet is exactly what you're not supposed to do, but so far everyone from the Internet has been really cool.
I also went to an alumni happy hour from the summer camp I attended way back in the day, with alums ranging from attended the camp in the early '80s to attended the camp in the late '00s, which brought out a nice cross-section of people I found interesting to talk to.
And there has been ZOMG Holidays are coming. Rosh Hashanah starts tomorrow evening.
And so, in the spirit of the Holiday, I want to say that this past year has been a long, exhausting, exciting year for me in which I have done many important things and learned many important things. I am grateful to all of you for sharing it with me.
I know that in the past year, I have said things that have hurt some or maybe even all of you. I want you to know that I am sorry, that I am working on being more sensitive to others, and that I hope you can forgive me. I wish I could promise I won't be an ass in the future, but we all know that I couldn't sincerely promise that. I will be an ass, but I will be an ass trying as hard as I can to do my part to make the world a better place. And that, too, is a journey that I hope you will all share with me in the coming year.
L'Shanah Tovah to everyone, and to those for whom it is a meaningful concept, L'Shanah Tovah Tikatevun v'techatemun.
