Jul. 19th, 2012 11:05 amMetropolitan Opera tickets arrived this week. As usual, I bought two tickets, and will be bringing along people with me to every show because going to the opera alone is far less fun.
The Tempest - Tuesday, October 23, 2012 7:30 PM
Le Nozze di Figaro - Tuesday, November 13, 2012 7:30 PM
Un Ballo in Maschera - Tuesday, December 4, 2012 7:30 PM
Les Troyens - Tuesday, January 1, 2013 6:00 PM
Le Comte Ory- Tuesday, February 5, 2013 7:30 PM
Giulio Cesare - Tuesday, April 9, 2013 7:00 PM
If you're available for any of these shows and you're interested, let me know!
The ones I'm particularly excited for are The Tempest, Marriage of Figaro, and Giulio Cesare, but all should be enjoyable. (I just tend to prefer non-19th century opera, is all!)
I still need to make a decision about my New York City Opera subscription. They're offering a $50 off deal on the higher priced subscriptions that ends tomorrow. So I can get the package of $50 seats for $35 apiece, or I can get less good seats for $25 apiece. My hesitation stems from uncertainty about the seating layouts at BAM and City Center. The low priced seats at the Met are still good, and the same was true at the State Theater, but at BAM and City Center that is very much not true. I had truly awful seats for On the Town at City Center, and lousy seats for Prima Donna at BAM. On the other hand, it's easier to find someone willing to pay $25 to join me at the opera than it is to find someone willing to pay $35, especially given the uneven quality of the NYCO's productions over the past couple of seasons. Probably I'll go with the cheaper seats.
