Last Wednesday was two weeks after the second vaccine shot. I'm kind of stunned at how my life is suddenly different.

Yesterday I went to a barbecue and saw people I hadn't seen in person since, like, Purim 2020. And we didn't wear masks and holy shit I haven't been social in person in a long time. Tomorrow night is Puzzled Pint and they're hosting it outdoors in Central Park and that's going to be another group of friends I haven't seen in person in over a year. And this weekend is my nieces' birthday party and I can't even say how excited I am to not have to watch them eat cake over zoom again. I was never normal so I cannot go back to normal, but it's been so long since I've had this kind of in person contact and it's amazing.

A month ago, New Jersey was reporting 2000-3000 cases a day (that itself down substantially from a few months earlier), now it's reporting 200-300 cases a day, and yesterday less than 200. I recognize how much of the world is still not vaccinated, and it's so, so important to keep up the public health effort and the vaccination campaign, but it's been remarkably effective around here and it really is changing the way we're able to behave around other people.

Yeah, I'm with you. The milestone I am sensing for me personally about the pandemic was getting vaccinated.

It's such a deep and profound change, getting to see people in person again. I feel a little giddy with it.

I didn't realize how much being able to be social, in-person, without being cold or wearing masks or staying 6 feet away mattered to me, and how different conversations are in-person, without the undercurrent of caution. Glad you are vaccinated!
