I submitted "Festival" to Vidukon as my vidder's choice vid. I'm not sure if they'll play it, as it is kind of long, but Vidder's Choice is supposed to be for whatever we want to submit so we'll see. I submitted a backup Vidder's Choice if they reject it. I really want "Festival" to play at a con because I want it to get a captive audience.

I managed to submit a premiere at the very last minute, a vid about Agent Broyles from Fringe. I know I said in last year's vidding wrapup post that I was hoping to make a Fringe vid. This was not any of the concepts I had in mind, any of which might still happen, but Lance Reddick's death inspired me. I didn't have time to get it betaed but I'm happy with it.

And then I watched a dumb romcom that had irresistible vidding fodder in identical shots of a character riding a bike as a child and then as an adult riding the same route and doing the same actions. And I've been saying for a while that it'd be fun to do a multifandom vid of bicycles to Queen's "Bicycle Race" so I was motivated to kick things off. I started Saturday night and now on Friday I've already put about 60 sources on the timeline. It turns out there are a lot more shows and movies with bicycles than Jews dancing, who knew? I'm really excited for this project, I think it's going to come out really fun.

What are your favorite book chapters? My post on the third chapter of Sally Rooney's latest novel had me thinking.

Here's a few of mine:

"Penelope", the 18th and last chapter of Joyce's Ulysses, the one where Molly Bloom monologues without punctuation for dozens of astonishingly insightful pages.

The 36th chapter of Austen's Pride and Prejudice, the one where Elizabeth reads and rereads Darcy's letter, each time the letter meaning something different.

The 25th chapter of Bujold's Memory, the one where Miles wrestles with Haroche's bribe and figures out how to trap Haroche.

"Carbon", the last chapter of Primo Levi's The Periodic Table, the one where the elements stop being a literary device and suddenly everything fits together into a worldview.

"Cetology" in Melville's Moby Dick, the one that's a whale biology textbook.

Edit Oh, I forgot to mention "With the Choedan Kal", the last chapter of the 9th book of the Wheel of Time, which pulls together all sorts of strands from earlier books into an incredibly satisfying conclusion that leaves room for forward motion.
