Hmm... I haven't seen the film, but would say that to some degree or other 'deliberately' is true (though the saying about attributing to malice what you can attribute to stupidity I think also applies), but 'successfully' is more complicated- I know as many people turned off as turned on by these sort of experiences. And even if successful, Judaism isn't a cult with one specific true way to practice it, so going deeper into Orthodoxy quite often doesn't mean going deeper into Orthodoxy in the specific way that kiruv practitioners envision. My own practice of Judaism is certainly extremely different in a number of ways from that of the people who urged me to go to this camp, and those who ran it.
