Well, I bought tickets for Iron Man 3. Saturday night after sundown, 3D fake IMAX. We shall see, I suppose. I am dreading the Mandarin like nobody's business. I am looking forward to more Tony fakescience, though. Hopefully the movie will inspire me to finish my long-stalled Tony/Bruce/Jane/Erik Team!science fic. Because the fic is so much fun, and I still don't know how to finish it.

I suppose the preemptive warning is in place that while I tend not to talk too much about twists, ever, I do tend to discuss spoilers without cut-tags. Meaning if in a shocking twist, it turns out that Thor is Tony's dad, I'm unlikely to reveal that fact, but I'll probably thoroughly dissect all the fakescience with glee. So if you care, maybe avoid reading my posts on Sunday?

I have been somewhat perplexed by reactions* to the Mandarin. People who I would expect to experience him as a sticking point have been surprisingly positive about the film, or even about the character himself. ("Surprisingly positive" about the character does not mean garlands and roses. More along the lines of, "Huh, I was expecting that to be a helluva lot worse.")

Still, I think "dreading like nobody's business" is the most prudent attitude to take into the theater with you.

I'm interested to hear you say you dread the Mandarin: I have seen the movie (the Australasian release was early), and enjoyed that part of the plot, but I am not a reader of comics. I hope you will write up a reaction post to it - I've talked the film over with a couple of people now, but not with any who were invested in earlier narratives.
