The thing I am most excited about right now is that Derrick Wang's opera Scalia/Ginsburg is going to be playing down in Delaware next April and I bought tickets to go with [personal profile] ghost_lingering. I am probably too excited for this. It last played in Cooperstown last summer and I really wanted to go but it fell when I was in Helsinki. Confluence of my politics nerdness and my opera nerdness.

Second most exciting thing is that Vividcon starts Thursday night. It is the last Vividcon and all indications are that it's going out big- twice as many premieres as has been typical the last few years have been submitted. I'm looking forward to spending as much time as possible with smart, brilliant, awesome people, I'm looking forward to dancing my way through Club Vivid, I'm looking forward to hosting Shabbos dinner, I'm looking forward to my Vid Roulette party even though at the moment we'll only be premiering two vids and also I have no idea how to run a con party. Or a party in general, really.

Mostly I am praying that the weather on Thursday is nice. I have yet to have an easy flight to Vividcon, it would be great if this year were different. I booked a morning flight instead of an evening flight this year on the logic that even if there is a delay, I'll still be able to get in on Thursday.

I had a very pleasant weekend- young professionals Shabbaton, with my brother visiting to participate. Some good meals, some good conversation, meeting interesting new people and spending time with friends, and yet still time to get a nice long nap. Sunday, one of my father's cousins and family were passing through the area on the way home after vacation, so we all met up for lunch: My parents and brother, my aunt and uncle, and my dad's cousin and his wife and two of his three children. The last few extended family get-togethers I've gone to have unfortunately been funerals and memorials, so it was nice to have a gathering that was just-because. The kids were cute but inattentive: The last time I saw them they were something like one and three years old, and now they're something like five and eight. So I meant nothing to them, and they'd been on a long family trip and were clearly tired of having to go wherever their parents told them to. They ran all around the restaurant, mostly. Afterward I did a little VVC prep and went for a short bike ride.
