I should have posted about this sooner, but Purim's made the past day and a half pretty crazy.

In any case, Purimgifts stories have begun to be posted and I've been lucky enough to be receiving ficlets about Beruriah, wife of Rabbi Meir, who's a feminist icon from the Gemara. Yes, the Talmud has feminist icons. They don't get treated very well, but they exist. Beruriah is smarter than most of the Rabbis she hangs out around and she's not afraid to show it, and she's awesome.

This is the sort of story you can't find anywhere else but in Purimgifts and it's really, really special and I'm tremendously grateful for it.

A Learned Woman: 2

Part three will be posted sometime today. And then I guess at some point there will be reveals and I can talk about the stories I wrote.

Things that would happen if The Autograph Man were actually a real fandom instead of a delusional dream of mine like all my fandoms:

-Alex/Adam shippers would war with Alex/Joseph shippers. I would probably side with Alex/Joseph because I feel bad for Joseph. Then there would be a backlash from the Alex/Esther shippers who hate when canonical love interests are erased. And then there would be a flame war because it's obvious that Alex/Esther is a mess. And people would whine that there wasn't enough Adam/Joseph. Is it because Adam's black?

-There would be a community for Dear Kitty letters. Hell, even though it's not a real fandom I may create a community, or at least an AO3 collection.

-I'd be off in a corner writing fic about Rubinfine and Rebecca. Nah, I think I'd be writing Rubinfine and Darvick and Green genfic if this were a real fandom. I'm probably going to do that anyway, because I love their sniping so much. They're characters from a Jewish folktale transported to modern England, and it's hard at times to believe they exist in the same world as Alex.

-The transgressive people would write the scene with Alex and Kitty sharing a bed, over and over again. Hell, a part of me expected more to happen when I was reading.

-Pacemaker kink? Hello, fandom!

-Circumcision debates like you wouldn't believe. For the record, my guesses are: Mark: Real bris milah. Alex: Hospital circumcision. Joseph: Real bris milah. Adam: Real bris milah performed by his 'old crew', then conversion ceremony when he came to England with symbolic bris milah.

Unfortunately, since this isn't a real fandom and my little snippet of Dear Kitty is probably the first fanfic written for the book, I'm going to have to make do with requesting Li-Jin's shivah for Yuletide.
