I just finished the Proncess Kikomi episode and then I had to stop for a while because come the fuck on.

I totally agree with the Iliad comparison--really as you posit it's far more like the Six Classics and the Han epic romances. I feel like I'm reading a punched-up version of the texts in my Classical Chinese textbook. But I think for me Liu's diction is too weird and heterogeneous. It works, and it's readable, it's totally readable, but it still remains heterogeneous imo."Mano a mani"? "princeps"? I am no anti-fan of anachronism but it feels like he goes too far at times.

And the lack of women. Even if it's all the male characters flattering themselves thus far, not reality, I still am not inclined to slog through further books at this point.
