And part of me enjoyed that, because I got to pretend to be a 1337 hacker, which I am totally not, but mostly I hated it and am glad I didn't have to do it.

Yes! Exactly how I feel about troubleshooting in Ubuntu. (I've had similar wireless problems with my ASUS netbook.)
