"Some Nights" by
IIttuJM is my favorite Grey's Anatomy vid.
I think it's a great vid in the way it captures the massive emotional sweep of Grey's Anatomy, how many characters and storylines and larger than life feelings it covers, from birth to death, from new relationships to ending relationships... but that's not what puts it over the top. What is particularly and unusually brilliant about "Some Nights" is its sound design.
The fun. song has this big echoing drumbeat throughout it, and the vidder pairs that incredibly brilliantly with diegetic sounds from the show- gunshots, resuscitating paddles, heart monitors, collisions, explosions, doors closing, all perfectly timed for maximum effect. It's so easy to do too much with source audio and force the audience into a shifting dual focus between song and supplementary sound, but nothing here is distracting, every added sound just pulls you deeper into the narrative.
