Tonight is the second attempted field test for the quiz buzzer system I built a few months ago. I've fixed all the bad wires and tweaked the software a little and I'm really hopeful that things will work better this time. That being said, I think I might bring my soldering iron with me to trivia in case I need to do a quick repair. Should've done that last time.

Last night was the June Puzzled Pint, a monthly casual puzzling event hosted every month at bars around the country. I think I've mentioned it before, as I've attended nearly every month for the past year. It's a lot of fun. The puzzles are of varying quality, but they're generous with hints if you're frustrated, so the event is accessible to puzzlers of very different skill and experience level, and it's just nice to hang out with friends doing puzzles.

This month the puzzles were particularly nicely done, I thought. All of the puzzle clues were scattered on a gridded map- before you could solve any of them, you first had to sort out which clues belonged to which puzzle, which is often an elegant and fun scheme, as long as the writers are careful to avoid undisambiguated clues that could fall into multiple categories. And last night we had no such problems, there was really only one clue we had that we found the categorization a little iffy, and we were able to place it pretty easily by process of elimination. Of course, solving the puzzles after that still took time. I'll try to remember the post a link to the puzzle set once they post it online, the puzzle people who might read this may wish to give it a go.
